Afanasyev Becoming Difference Maker for Admirals
Cedar Park, Texas
The official website of the University of Texas Men's Ice Hockey team, CEDAR PARK Texas, reports that Afanasyev is becoming a difference maker for the Admirals. The Texas Stars, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, are proud to announce that forward Arseni Afanasyev is quickly becoming a valuable asset to the team.
In his first five games with the Admirals, Afanasyev has recorded three goals and two assists, including a game-winning goal in a 4-2 victory over the Iowa Wild on Saturday night.
A 20-year-old native of Moscow, Russia, Afanasyev was acquired by the Stars from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for future considerations on November 22, 2022. He spent the previous two seasons with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, where he recorded 62 goals and 58 assists in 120 games. Afanasyev also represented Russia at the 2023 World Junior Championships, scoring one goal and two assists in seven games.
Afanasyev's offensive prowess has been on display since joining the Admirals. He has shown a knack for finding open ice and creating scoring chances for himself and his teammates. His speed and agility have also made him a threat on the forecheck, and he has been able to generate turnovers and scoring chances with his aggressive play.
The Admirals are currently in second place in the AHL's Central Division with a record of 12-6-2-0. They will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Grand Rapids Griffins at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
