Early Life and Legal Career
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. After graduating from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, she began her legal career as a prosecutor.
Political Rise:
San Francisco District Attorney and California Attorney General
Harris served as District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. She was known for her tough stance on crime and her work to reform the justice system. In 2010, she was elected California's first woman Attorney General.
U.S. Senator
In 2016, Harris was elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the second African American woman to serve in that body. She quickly established herself as a prominent voice on issues including criminal justice reform, healthcare, and climate change.
Vice Presidency
In 2020, Harris made history by becoming the first female, first Black, and first Asian American Vice President of the United States. She has played a key role in the Biden administration's efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, and social justice.
