Uk Politics Lurches Further To The Right

UK politics lurches further to the right

‘Frockgate’ and Starmer’s love-in with Meloni – Politics Weekly UK

An open threat to working people and those who believe in equality

The far-right is on the march across Europe. In Italy, Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party has just won the general election, with Meloni set to become the country’s first female prime minister. In France, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party came second in the recent presidential election, and is now the largest party in the National Assembly. And in Spain, Vox, another far-right party, has become the third-largest party in the country.

The UK is not immune to this trend. The Conservative Party has been moving steadily to the right in recent years, and is now led by Liz Truss, a self-proclaimed “fiscal conservative” who has pledged to cut taxes and reduce the size of the state.

The Labour Party, under Keir Starmer, has also been moving to the right. Starmer has abandoned many of the party’s traditional policies, such as nationalisation and workers’ rights, and has instead embraced a more centrist approach.

This shift to the right by both major parties is deeply concerning. The far-right poses a serious threat to democracy, human rights, and social justice. Far-right parties are often nationalist, authoritarian, and anti-immigrant. They scapegoat minorities, stoke fear and division, and undermine the rule of law.

The Labour Party has a long history of standing up to the far-right. But under Starmer, the party has abandoned its principles and is now actively courting the far-right vote. This is a betrayal of the party’s values and a dangerous game to play.

The UK is at a crossroads. We can either stand up to the far-right and defend our democracy, or we can allow them to divide and conquer us. The choice is ours.
